As a homeowner, there are times when you simply may not\nbe able to make your mortgage payment. \nMortgages and homes are expensive. \nIn Rhode Island, the average cost of a home is approximately $265,000<\/a>.  This means that with interest, insurance,\ntaxes, and other fees that are included in a typical mortgage, the average\nmonthly mortgage payment is approximately $2,250<\/a>\nper month.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At any income, an average monthly mortgage payment of\n$2,250 is going to take up a large portion of a household\u2019s income.  That number also doesn\u2019t include other\nexpenses associated with the home, such as utilities, repairs, and maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, there are other necessary expenses each\nmonth.  Food, gas, car payments,\ninsurance premiums, childcare, and healthcare costs are just some of the\nexpenses that may come up.  \nAdditionally, expenses that haven\u2019t been planned for can come up, such\nas medical costs or an emergency expense. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your income can also fluctuate.  You may have to take time off from work due\nto you or someone in your immediate family being sick, or the birth of a\nchild.  You could find yourself\nunemployed or underemployed, and not making enough money to meet your monthly\nexpenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
