{"id":354,"date":"2019-02-08T23:30:23","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mortgagemodificationri.com\/blog\/?p=354"},"modified":"2019-05-05T23:59:19","modified_gmt":"2019-05-05T23:59:19","slug":"help-with-mortgage-ri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mortgagemodificationri.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/08\/help-with-mortgage-ri\/","title":{"rendered":"Protect Your Home"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The thought of losing your home is a terrifying one.&nbsp; Unfortunately, there are companies &nbsp;who prey on this fear.&nbsp; These companies will claim to be able to help\nyou with your mortgage, but can end up scamming you \u2013 out of money, and even\nout of your home.&nbsp; To make sure that you protect\nyourself and your home, there are some signs that you should be looking out for\nif you choose to hire someone to help you &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mortgagemodificationri.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/07\/mortgage-modification-lawyer\/\">modify\nyour mortgage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, a company should never guarantee that they can get\nyou approved for a mortgage modification.&nbsp;\nGetting approved for a mortgage modification is never guaranteed.&nbsp; Because each mortgage modification must be\napplied for and then approved by the individual mortgage company, there is\nsimply no way to guarantee that your mortgage modification will be approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, if your mortgage modification was rejected\nthe first time, and you choose to hire a company to help you appeal that\ndecision, there is no way to guarantee that your appeal will be approved.&nbsp; Be wary of any company that guarantees to be\nable to do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second, a company should not guarantee that they can\nlower your monthly mortgage payment.&nbsp; A\nlower monthly mortgage payment <em>may<\/em> occur,\nbut sometimes the mortgage payment actually increases for a period of time , or\nfor the life of the loan.&nbsp; In these\ncases, a mortgage modification may still be beneficial because it can give you\nsome other benefit, such as avoiding foreclosure, or making you current on your\naccount.&nbsp; However, if a company\nguarantees that they can lower your mortgage payment, be cautious because that\nis simply not something that they can guarantee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a company is asking you to sign over your home in\nexchange for your help, they are not helping you.&nbsp; Scammers have gotten creative with this scam\nto make it sound realistic.&nbsp; For example,\nthey may tell you they need you to sign your property over to start the\nprocess, or that you can do a rent-to-own type of agreement where you rent your\nhome from them and eventually own the home again. Do not sign your property\nover to anyone!&nbsp; If a company is asking\nyou to do this, they should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov\/#crnt&amp;panel1-1\">reported<\/a>\nimmediately.&nbsp;&nbsp; Further, if the company is\noffering to purchase your home for less than it\u2019s worth or offering to purchase\nyour home at all, they aren\u2019t trying to help you with a mortgage modification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you do choose to hire an attorney, make sure that the\nattorney is an actual attorney and is licensed to practice in your state.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you choose to hire someone to help you with your\nmortgage modification, make sure you check out the person or the company before\nhiring them.&nbsp; Research the name of the\nperson and\/or the company using a simple Google search to see if any reviews or\nanything else comes up.&nbsp; Many times,\ncompanies have official sounding names to trick homeowners into thinking they\nare associated with the government when they are not.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, as a general rule, you should never sign a paper that you don&#8217;t fully understand.
